Comprehensive Examination

Diagnostic x-rays as needed, an oral cancer screening, a gum disease evaluation, a check of every tooth surface for decay, and a look at your existing fillings and crowns.

Composite Fillings

Cracks, decay and old defective material are removed completely first. White composite is then placed over a bonding agent, which bonds it to the tooth.

Porcelain Veneers

Typically two visits. Impressions are taken, the color and shape chosen, and the veneers custom shaped and bonded to the teeth. Long-lasting, but not permanent.

Dental Implants

The titanium implant fuses with the bone, which helps prevent the jawbone shrinkage that follows a lost tooth. Chewing is not diminished, and you care for it like a natural tooth.

Superior technology

Impressions, scanned digitally.

We use CAD/CAM digital scanning for impressions: for a simple diagnostic impression, a crown, a bridge, or even a night guard.

  • CAD/CAM digital scanningA digital scan of your teeth takes the place of a conventional impression.
  • Diagnostic x-rays, as neededFor the early detection of decay, and to check tooth and root positions and look for cysts or bone loss.
  • Oral cancer screeningFace, neck, lips, gums, tongue, throat and the surrounding tissues, at the examination.
  • Intraoral and facial picturesMay be taken as part of the comprehensive examination.

Digital scanning can be used for a crown, a bridge or a night guard.

New patients

Your first visit is a full examination.

Drs. Huang use a comprehensive approach: the whole mouth, not only the tooth that brought you in. As part of the examination you can expect:

  1. An examination of any diagnostic x-rays, taken as needed
  2. An oral cancer screening of the face, neck, lips, gums, tongue and throat
  3. A gum disease evaluation, and a check of each tooth for decay
  4. A look at existing fillings and crowns, and possibly intraoral pictures

Common questions

What people ask before they book.

What is a prosthodontist?

A dentist who has completed a further specialty residency in prosthodontics, the restoring and replacing of teeth: crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures and implants. Dr. Michiko Huang completed hers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, followed by a residency in maxillofacial prosthodontics.

What happens at a comprehensive examination?

Drs. Jonathan and Michiko Huang examine any diagnostic x-rays (taken as needed), screen for oral cancer across the face, neck, lips, gums, tongue and throat, evaluate your gums for periodontal disease, check for decay, and look at your existing fillings, crowns and restorations. They may also take intraoral and facial pictures.

How many visits do porcelain veneers take?

Typically two. Impressions are made and a custom mold is created; once your color and shape are selected, the veneers are custom shaped and bonded onto the surface of your teeth. They are long-lasting but not permanent, and may need replacing one day, so treat them like natural teeth: brushing, flossing and regular visits.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Anyone missing one or more teeth is a candidate. An implant replaces the natural root, which helps prevent the jawbone from shrinking, and the replacement tooth looks and works like your own. Drs. Huang can discuss the role of implants as part of your overall assessment.

What are composite fillings?

White filling material. Composite restores a tooth after decay or a fracture, and can also improve the look of stained teeth, change a tooth's shape or close a small gap. It is placed over a bonding agent that bonds it to the tooth.
